Meet CHS Band Members

Mike Piaskowski – Lead/Backup Vocals & Acoustic Guitar – Mike has been playing acoustic gui-tar for about 16 years.  Starting off playing primarily solo helped him develop a strong percussive style.  After college he invested in his first PA system equipment, parts of which you'll see and hear with COAL HOLE SOUL.  The new equipment allowed him to start playing out part time in coffee shops and bar rooms throughout north central and eastern PA.  Mike has found himself fronting bands such as "August West and the Fleshtones" and playing color man in the acoustic trio "Chief Brody."  Heavily influenced early on by his father's record collection, Mike was exposed to a wide range of artists from Donny Hathaway to Ravi Shankar to Frank Zappa.  Later he learned from popular artists like Dave Matthews, Eddie Vedder and Mr. Ben Harper.  A new found love of world music now peaks his interest.  "My life really revolves around a love of music.  It influences my moods and enriches my daily experience.  At its best, sonic expression puts me in a meditative state.  It allows my soul to stretch, breathe and liberate karmic baggage.  For me, it's really about exorcising de-mons.  When others join in it makes the ceremony that much more powerful."

Ed Michalik (Edju)
– Drummer & Percussion – Ed brings almost 40 years of experience to the drum chair, with styles of music ranging from jazz, rock and reggae to funk, soul and fusion.  Ed is a schooled musician (Berklee) whose influences include Buddy Rich, John Bonham and Don Brewer to Neil Peart and many of today’s modern drummers.  On the road with Pocono bands in the 70's, original L.A. groups in the 80's, and Florida Top 40 bands in the 90's, Ed is looking forward to this new lineup of old friends and great musicians with COAL HOLE SOUL!

Stan Piaskowski – Bass Guitar, Accordion, Keyboards, Backup Vocals, etc. – Stan is a veteran local N.E. Pennsylvania musician, performing live music in a 'solo' and/or 'combo' setting for over 40 years.  His formal music training began at the age of 6, with his first working 'combo' being "The Universals" at the age of 12.  Over the years, Stan has played with local groups "Flum" and "Streetlife" performing original material, as well as other popular & country music cover bands including "Calico Joe", "Night On The Town", "Country Hearts", and local jam bands "August West and the Fleshtones" and "Rhythm Rats".  He is known primarily for his playing and arranging skills as a multi-keyboard player (piano, synthesizers).  He also plays electric bass guitar and acoustic rhythm guitar, as well as harmonica and accordion.  With COAL HOLE SOUL, Stan does the arranging and plays electric bass guitar, some accordion, and adds supporting vocals.  Stan says that "COAL HOLE SOUL is yet another extension of my experience playing within an ensemble of dedicated musicians who want to create a LIVE sound that will move an audience to enjoy themselves, relax, and have a good time.”
